JCCC's Interior Design program is unique because it has three different paths that students can take.

  • Associate of Applied Science in Interior Design: As part of the AAS degree, you will intern 160 hours. You will graduate ready to be successful from day one. Our connections to the industry can help you identify an internship and launch the kind of career you're looking for.
  • Interior Design Assistant Certificate: Through 34 credit hours of Interior Design courses, you will learn about interior design, textiles and more. Upon completion of these courses, you can enter the working world of interior design. Other options include pursuing an associate degree at JCCC or transferring credits to a four-year university.
  • Kitchen and Bath Design Certificate: At JCCC, you will work through Interior Design courses that focus on this specialty. After completing 54 credit hours, you will be qualified to take the Associate Kitchen and Bath Design (AKBD) certification exam.

The Interior Design AAS degree provides the educational foundation for the following exams:

  • National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ)
  • Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate Certification
  • Associate Kitchen and Bath Designer (AKBD) certification

The employment rate for our graduates has been 100 percent. Many graduates end up at design firms in the area.

Our experienced, award-winning professors maintain strong ties to the industry. Professional designers often are guest speakers in our classes, and interior design showrooms welcome our students for off-site learning experiences. Each spring, select students can redesign a room in the Symphony Designers' Showhouse, a fundraiser for the Kansas City Symphony.

We are also unique because we offer online programs in Interior Design, giving you more flexibility with your schedule.
